The Kentuckiana Metro on the Move is an easy to use, web-based physical activity and weight loss tracking program to assist worksites, labor groups, and organizations in improving health. Kentuckiana Worksite Wellness Conference - May 7
Escalating health care costs make employee health a top priority for all businesses today. The Kentuckiana Health Alliance, a local coalition of businesses, labor organizations, and healthcare stakeholders, hosted the Kentuckiana Worksite Wellness Conference on Friday, May 7th, 2010. This conference, sponsored by Anthem, addressed the legal issues surrounding wellness and introduced proven strategies for implementing effective worksite wellness programs (see presentations below).

Kentuckiana Metro on the Move History
The Kentuckiana Health Alliance Obesity and Chronic Disease Taskforce completed a worksite wellness pilot program in 2007 called Well@Work. Due to Well@Work's success, the committee agreed to continue its focus on helping local employers/labor groups adopt worksite wellness activities that improve individual health.
- According to Government studies, 66% of the National Workforce is overweight.
- A review of 73 published studies of worksite health promotion programs shows the average return on investment of $4.30 for every $1.00 spent on wellness programming.
- According to the Centers for Disease Control, more than 75% of employers' health care costs and productivity losses are related to employee lifestyle choices.
- Comprehensive employee wellness programs result in average reductions of 25% in sick leave, health plan costs and workers' compensation and disability costs.
- At the current rate of increase, the cost of health care to employers will likely be the single most significant detriment to profitability and viability over the next decade.
In 2008, the Kentucky Diabetes Network and the Kentuckiana Health Alliance received a grant from the Anthem WellPoint Foundation for a worksite wellness program to address adult obesity in Greater Louisville. The new project, titled Kentuckiana Metro on the Move (KMOM), launched in early 2009.
