The UAW/Ford Motor Company commissioned The Lewin Group, a noted health policy research and management consulting firm from the Washington D.C. area, to conduct a comprehensive community health assessment of the Louisville MSA. This study was compiled into what is called the Louisville MSA Community Assessment Factbook.
Stakeh olders from various sectors (e.g. hospitals, health plans, pharmaceuticals, physicians, businesses, unions, health organizations, universities, etc.) were invited to attend community forums. These forums served to:
- Educate the community about the findings from the Louisville MSA Community Assessment Factbook;
- Engage the community in the selection of initial priority areas to narrow the focus of the initiative.
Three priorities were selected by the community:
- Chronic Disease
- Obesity / Sedentary Lifestyle
- Smoking
A fourth priority was selected in 2004 by the Kentuckiana Health Alliance: Healthcare Quality Improvement.
